2 Year Check-up

Amelia had her two year check-up and I wanted to post her stats so we can keep track.

Weight - 24 lbs    25th percentile
Height - 33.5 in.   50th percentile

Not bad!  Our pediatrician is using the WHO health charts to measure which is great for us because it puts her higher on the scales.  Compared to U.S. babies she's practically starving.  But compared to the rest of the world, she's just slightly petite!  Thank you, Asia:)  I'm still able to fit her into 18-24 month clothes and we'll be in those for some time still.  The next size up is 2T which is huge on her.

Funny things Amelia says...

Now that Amelia is talking, some of the stuff she says is worth recording.  I can't film all of it but I can put in print so at least we will remember it through the years.  As a side note, the kid never quits talking.  It's a constant stream of words, thoughts and songs.  Let me say that it is never a dull moment around here!

Amelia speak:

"Are you kidding me?"  -  and with all of the inflections associated with that phrase.  She heard me saying it one day when I was mad at something Martin did.  It hasn't stopped being funny.  She sometimes says "Are you serious?" - equally as funny.

"Knock it off, Daddy"

"Oh shit!"   -  we're trying to discourage this one but she actually used it appropriately the other day when she dropped her cup.

"I wanna carry you"  -  meaning she wants one of us to carry her.  She will also say "I wanna hold you" and it means the same thing.

"Mommy feel better.  I hug you and you feel better."  -  this one melted my heart!  I told her not to drink from my glass because I wasn't feeling well.  Then she said this to me!  It was so sweet!

"Mommy farted"   -  actually I didn't, although sometimes...  I'm pregnant so gas happens.  Either way, whenever she hears a sound that is similar to a fart she assumes someone farted and likes to call it out.  She did this to me at Einstein Bagels the other day and people started laughing.  I think it was the sound of the chairs moving.  Really!

I'll make sure to post more as she comes up with it.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Amelia!

It was more like, Happy Birth-week for Amelia.  We celebrated all week long.  On her birthday, Tuesday July 26th, she woke up to get some of her first presents - a Radio Flyer tricycle with basket and bell and two pair of Adidas kicks (thanks, Tildyn!).  Then she had celebrations at her daycare that afternoon.  Then Martin and I picked her up early to go to the pool.  Then...  we had dinner with friends and Phil's Icehouse where she and her friend Piper got to play on the playground and have Amy's Ice Cream!  It was a full day.

My girl likes her shoes!

They have the same shoes!!!

Remember I said it was a Birth-week celebration.  All of the first festivities happened on her actual birthday which was Tuesday.  The days after we kept singing "Happy Birthday to Amelia".  Then Saturday we had her party in Houston.  It was Hello Kitty themed and all of her friends were there to celebrate.  It was so much fun even though it was 100 degrees outside and wet from the earlier thunderstorm.  Still, she had a great time.

And that's it.  There are hundreds of photos but I tried to keep it to a minimum and post good ones.

To our sweet Amelia,

I can't believe you're two years old.  You have made us smile and laugh more than we thought was possible.  You bring a joy to our family that is beyond measure.  We love you so much.  Thank you for being you.

Baby number two...

That's right folks, we're pregnant with baby number two!  I'm 12 weeks in and it has been a rough go.  This one has definitely been harder than the first one which has Martin convinced it's a boy.  He's got a 50/50 shot.  We'll find out for sure in September and when we know, you'll know.  Names will be kept a secret, however, until the birth:)

We've been trying to prep Amelia for the upcoming arrival and she seems to be warming up to the idea.  At first she denied it completely.  But now when we ask her where the baby is, she points to my belly.  Which, incidentally, is growing at a rapid pace.  I asked our midwife if we were having twins, but no - I'm just big.  Anyway, we ask Amelia what she wants to name the baby.  At first she said "Baby", then "Turner", now she says "Home".  It's really sweet.  I think she'll be a wonderful big sister!

Beyond that excitement, we seem to be in the full throws of the "Terrible Two's".  And we're failing miserably at the disciplining part of parenting.  Amelia actually likes time out and asks for it frequently.  The other day we threatened not to put her in time out as her punishment.  Where did we go wrong?  When she does go to time out she sings to herself, talks to the wall and makes up stories.  We here her talking and mimicking things we've said.  I know we're going about this wrong somehow.

Funny things Amelia says:

"Mommy, I wanna hold you."  - translation: she wants me to pick her up.  So cute!  How can you say no to that.

"Buggy!  Walk away!" - she loves to boss the dogs around

And she loves to sing to herself.  She's actually pretty good at remembering lines to the song.

Amelia's 2nd birthday is coming up next week!  I can't believe my little monkey is turning two.  We'll have some fun photos to share over the next couple of weeks.

Recent weeks

April, May and June have been busy travel months for us.  I have had to make several trips back and forth to Houston for work and personal, I went to Hong Kong in April and to Japan in May for work, Martin went to Las Vegas for work and we made a family trip to San Francisco to visit Martin's family.  I'm exhausted just recalling all of it.  And one final trip is approaching - a long awaited vacation to the Dominican Republic for just Martin and myself!  We're calling it a honeymoon since we never had an official one, but the main purpose is for a dear friend's wedding.  Still, it's a vacation none the less.  And our darling daughter will be hangin' with my family in Houston while we enjoy 6 beautiful days on the beach.  Then our traveling days will come to a welcome halt.

New things happen every day in the Turner household.  Amelia has temper tantrums and ultimate meltdowns almost daily and sometimes multiple times a day.  I don't know who coined the term "terrible two's" but that is seriously misleading.  It actually starts somewhere around 18 months and doesn't stop until they're beyond three.  She is very "spirited" which is a nice way of saying high maintenance.  Along with the emotional swings she's having now, she is learning stuff at an incredible pace.  Everyday she tells us something we never heard her say before or begins to comprehend things that were foreign only a few weeks ago.  And the kid loves to sing.  She sings songs she knows and songs that she makes up as she goes along.  And she is terribly demanding.  Sometimes we start singing a song and she immediately stops us "No, No! No rowin' da boat!"  or  "No twinkle star, Mommy!"  At night when we read books she is very particular about the selection.  She loves Skippyjon Jones and Dr. Seuss books are hit or miss.  Sometimes we hear "No Sam I am!  No Cat in da Hat!"  She's even demanding with the dogs.  Today she told Bug "No Buggy!  Walk away!!!"  There is no shortage of laughs or frustrations in our house right now but the laughter still reigns.
